Crowns and Bridges

Porcelain Crowns

Here at Manatee Family Dental, we want you to have a healthy and beautiful smile for life—and crowns are just one of the tools we use to help you achieve that goal.

A crown is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface, restoring it to its original shape and size. Crowns protect and strengthen teeth that can’t be restored with fillings or other types of restorations. A crown may be needed when tooth decay is too large for a filling, there is an old filling that is cracked, or a tooth has had a root canal.

Although there are several types of crowns, porcelain (tooth-colored) ones are the most popular, because they look just like your natural teeth. They’re highly durable, and have the potential to last many years—but like most dental restorations, they may eventually need to be replaced. Porcelain crowns are made to match the shape, size, and color of your teeth so you can achieve a natural-looking beautiful smile that lasts!

Porcelain Fixed Bridges

Some people think of dental bridges as an option only for older adults, but that’s not true. Dental bridges can be used to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth, as well as to fill spaces in between teeth.

Fixed (non-removable) bridges are an excellent way to replace missing teeth. Your dentist will discuss the best options for your particular case. This can include a traditional bridge, which is usually made of porcelain fused to metal, porcelain fixed bridges, or another type of bridge. This is determined by several factors, including your particular case and your preferences.

Dental bridges are highly durable and have the potential to last many years; however, they may need replacement or need to be re-cemented due to normal wear and tear.
